Probably soon - Quake 3 on your iPhone / iPod Touch
The guys from HermitWorks have posted this Friday an amazingly impressive video of a networked Quake 3 game running on two iPod Touch. I know, there are already a couple of 3d shooters running on the iPhone platform, but this one beats the crap out of them - controlling the movement by tilting your iPhone, this is an amazing new level of interactivity for a Quake 3 shooter.
Words are worth less than the video. Watch and be impressed!

1 million iPhones missing

I guess u already heard the news - some people counted the number of iPhones sold by Apple and the one registered to various official service providers. There seems to be a 1 million iPhones unaccountable, and the only explanation for it is that they were unlocked and being used in other networks.
Duh… even in Romania, where the iPhone is still to be launched there’s a thriving market for unlocked iPhones - I saw at least 5 people in the street using them.
Warning! Jailbreak for 1.1.3 may prevent official 3rd party apps!

The guys from iPhone Atlas have a sad piece news for most of you iPhone owners out there: as the title says, the jailbreak software for 1.1.3 firmware is likely to break a vital component of the new 1.1.3 firmware - namely, the “Nikita” library that deals with installing signed software.
It looks like Nate’s update causes Nikita to break (Nikita is the component on the iPhone/iTouch responsible for installing signed software, such as the iPod App Pack and likely SDK apps in the future),” adding “We believe this is because the soft-update method that was released doesn’t update the kernel cache, so users are likely still booting into the 111 or 112 kernel, which is lacking the necessary DRM components to verify/decrypt packages with Nikita.
Our piece of advice for you? Hold on a bit longer, salvation might be around the corner, I bet my lunch money that sometime next week we’ll see an update to the jailbreak software, that will fix this issue.
iPhone jailbreak for 1.1.3 available as of today
All you iPhone owners jump for joy!

The amazing team over at cre.ations.net did it at last!
As of today, there’s a complete iPhone jailbreak for firmware 1.1.3 available over at http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/iphone-113-jailbreak-released.
Just for your info, the application the amazing guys at cre.ations.net have created is called iBrickr and has an official website: iBrickr
Now you may be wondering how this jailbreak works. Here’s a breakdown:
- iBrickr grabs the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware image and extracts, decrypts, and decompresses the disk image.
- Then it applies a patch, jailbreaking the disk image and activating it, and also installing Installer.app.
- It uploads this new modified image to the phone, as 113_upgrade_image.bin.
- The “1.1.3 soft upgrade” app flashes the phone with the image and reboots.
- You have a perfect, jailbroken, upgraded 1.1.3 phone, with all your settings and music intact!
All in all, this app is not officially supported by Apple, so be aware that you’ll use it on your own risk.

Use the iPhone as a remote control for your car
The iLounge and PCMag tell us about an impressive little software demonstrated at CES by Delphi: the Wireless Vehicle Access software running on an iPhone is a system utilizing a Bluetooth link between the iPhone (or other device) and a new smart key fob to allow users to check their car’s vitals from up to a mile away.
The functions it provides include: the ability to turn on the engine, turn on the climate control, roll down the windows, check door unlock/lock status, monitor tire pressure, check how much gas is in the car, and even tell the condition of the oil and brake fluid.

Unfortunately for all of us, we don’t know if this concept system will ever find its way into production vehicles.
iPhone recognizes songs on Radio!
TUAW told us today about a new iPhone 3-rd party software that turns your iPhone into a lean, mean song-recognizing machine.
This amazing app, developed by Erica Sadun, is called Listen and makes it dead easy to learn what song the radio is playing: Just whip out your iPhone, put it near the car speakers, and watch the screen. Poof! There’s the song, artist, and album.
Go ahead, try it and tell us what u think!

Forbes says Apple won’t sell ten million iPhones
ArsTehnica points us to a Forbes article that tries to dismantle Steve Jobs’ promise that they’d sell ten million iPhones in 2008. The main reasons given by the author are based on Apple’s lock-in strategy, the expensive prise and the exclusive deal Apple has made with Cingular.
What will it be? Only time will tell. In the meantime, we’re looking forward to being among the first ten million iPhone users ![]()
Steve Jobs already on the iPhone?

According to a Flickr paparazzi that took pictures of Steve Jobs at his kids’ soccer game, Steve Jobs was avidly using a device with the same form factor as the iPhone, and was using his finger to navigate and make calls.
It’s just a rumor, obviously. After all, it could have been just any PDA/Smartphone around..
