• Import Contacts from the SIM card into the iPhone

Much to my surprise, after I managed to unlock and jailbreak my iPhone using the ziPhone utility, none of the contacts I had on my card were accessible. Zip, nada, nothing.
I started to look around and noticed that ziPhone had installed the “Installer.app” utility. Taking a peek inside, I saw that this wonderful app lets one install a lot of native iPhone apps from various sources.

    iSIM

The app I used was iSIM for iPhone, a shareware that imports the contacts. The free version only lets you import contacts one by one. In order to import them all, you need to buy the full version. Even with one by one(I was bored), it took me less than 5 minutes to import all of the contacts. Some extra fun 10 minutes later, everyone was in place, names were corrected, duplicates removed, contact photos were added and my contact list was in place.

Had I known better, I would have certainly used the better, free alternatives to iSIM:

    SIMport

SIMport is a free app that, according to some, is better in more ways. I haven’t tested it but you could try it(on your own risk, obviously). This is the defacto contact import app, recommended by the major iPhone – related blogs. SIMport imports ALL the contacts(or only the selected ones) in a couple of seconds.

  • Step by step: jailbreak a brand new iPhone, for absolute novices

After months and months of waiting I am the proud owner of a brand new iPhone. As any of you, I was an absolute novice in all iPhone related matters. Words like jailbreak, cracking, hacking, bootloader, baseband were(and some still are) strangers to me. All I wanted was to be able to use my iPhone with my current carrier(not AT&T) and that I wanted to be able to upload music, videos and cool free games onto it.

Anyways, I got the trick pretty quickly so now I’m gonna teach you, step by step, everything from unpacking the iPhone to getting it running.

Today, first lesson: the 4-minutes jailbreak. I’m assuming you’re using an Apple Mac(as me), but the instructions remain similar for Windows PC’s as well. We’ll be using the software ziPhone version 2.5c.

  • How to Unlock Your 1.1.2, 1.1.3 OTB iPhone

iClarified.com brings thorough instructions about unlocking an 1.1.2, 1.1.3 OTB iPhone. The instructions assume you have already jailbroken the particular firmware you would like to be on. This works from 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 firmware, but only if you are on a 4.6 BL iPhone. This means that your iPhone came with 1.1.2 or 1.1.3 Out of the Box. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU DON’T DO THIS ON A 3.9 BL IPHONE!

Read the entire install/unlock process over at the iClarified website. Please tell us how it went.. :D

  • One click jailbreak for iPhone 1.1.3 firmware

If the already existing methods for jailbreaking the iPhone to the 1.1.3 firmware were too complex for you, the Jailbreak Dev Team has released a one-click solution that you simply install through Installer.app.

To be able to do that, you’ll need a jailbroken iPhone with the 1.1.2 firmware(chances are that you already have one ;-) ) – here’s a step-by-step walkthrough to achieve this, over on Lifehacker.com.

After this, it’s a matter of patiently installing the software you download from here.

  • 1 million iPhones missing

I guess u already heard the news - some people counted the number of iPhones sold by Apple and the one registered to various official service providers. There seems to be a 1 million iPhones unaccountable, and the only explanation for it is that they were unlocked and being used in other networks.
Duh… even in Romania, where the iPhone is still to be launched there’s a thriving market for unlocked iPhones – I saw at least 5 people in the street using them.

  • Warning! Jailbreak for 1.1.3 may prevent official 3rd party apps!

The guys from iPhone Atlas have a sad piece news for most of you iPhone owners out there: as the title says, the jailbreak software for 1.1.3 firmware is likely to break a vital component of the new 1.1.3 firmware – namely, the “Nikita” library that deals with installing signed software.

It looks like Nate’s update causes Nikita to break (Nikita is the component on the iPhone/iTouch responsible for installing signed software, such as the iPod App Pack and likely SDK apps in the future),” adding “We believe this is because the soft-update method that was released doesn’t update the kernel cache, so users are likely still booting into the 111 or 112 kernel, which is lacking the necessary DRM components to verify/decrypt packages with Nikita.

Our piece of advice for you? Hold on a bit longer, salvation might be around the corner, I bet my lunch money that sometime next week we’ll see an update to the jailbreak software, that will fix this issue.

  • iPhone jailbreak for 1.1.3 available as of today

All you iPhone owners jump for joy!

The amazing team over at cre.ations.net did it at last!

As of today, there’s a complete iPhone jailbreak for firmware 1.1.3 available over at http://cre.ations.net/blog/post/iphone-113-jailbreak-released.
Just for your info, the application the amazing guys at cre.ations.net have created is called iBrickr and has an official website: iBrickr

Now you may be wondering how this jailbreak works. Here’s a breakdown:
    - iBrickr grabs the 1.1.3 iPhone firmware image and extracts, decrypts, and decompresses the disk image.
    - Then it applies a patch, jailbreaking the disk image and activating it, and also installing Installer.app.
    - It uploads this new modified image to the phone, as 113_upgrade_image.bin.
    - The “1.1.3 soft upgrade” app flashes the phone with the image and reboots.
    - You have a perfect, jailbroken, upgraded 1.1.3 phone, with all your settings and music intact!

All in all, this app is not officially supported by Apple, so be aware that you’ll use it on your own risk.

  • Use the iPhone as a remote control for your car

The iLounge and PCMag tell us about an impressive little software demonstrated at CES by Delphi: the Wireless Vehicle Access software running on an iPhone is a system utilizing a Bluetooth link between the iPhone (or other device) and a new smart key fob to allow users to check their car’s vitals from up to a mile away.
The functions it provides include: the ability to turn on the engine, turn on the climate control, roll down the windows, check door unlock/lock status, monitor tire pressure, check how much gas is in the car, and even tell the condition of the oil and brake fluid.

Unfortunately for all of us, we don’t know if this concept system will ever find its way into production vehicles.

  • iPhone recognizes songs on Radio!

TUAW told us today about a new iPhone 3-rd party software that turns your iPhone into a lean, mean song-recognizing machine.
This amazing app, developed by Erica Sadun, is called Listen and makes it dead easy to learn what song the radio is playing: Just whip out your iPhone, put it near the car speakers, and watch the screen. Poof! There’s the song, artist, and album.
Go ahead, try it and tell us what u think!
